International Fellowship Program


 

The Neurological Institute of Curitiba (INC), Brazil is pleased to be able to announce three fellowships per annum for young neurosurgeons and senior or chief residents in neurosurgery residency programs. Curitiba is a modern city of two million inhabitants with a referral population area of over three million persons. The Neurological Institute of Curitiba is a reference center in South America for neurosurgery. Our 10 staff members (plus residents) cover all neurosurgical fields with special focus on skull base surgery, brain tumors, funcional neurosurgery, neuroendoscopy, spine surgery and vascular pathologies. All faculty members work full time at the Institute and around 1,000 elective surgeries are performed yearly.

Program details are
- Duration of fellowship will be 4 months.
- Candidates will be allowed to attend to surgeries, conferences, workshops and other educational activities during the fellowship period.
- Fellows are not permitted to perform surgeries however they can assist.
- Fellows will attend regular clinical meeting, rounds in wards and Neurointensive care unit.
- Fellows are encouraged to actively participate in research projects.
- Fellows will be given furnished accommodation and meals in the Institute.
- Fellows will be paid a monthly scholarship of US$ 800.
- Traveling expenses should be borne by the candidate.
- After completion of the period the fellows will receive a certificate from the WFNS and INC Requirements.

Summary of activities - Neurological Institute of Curitiba:

  • Daily clinical meetings from 7:30am to 8:30am (presentation of clinical cases by residents, planning of surgical procedures and discussion with the staff).
  • Tuesday and Thrusday from 8:30am to 9:15am (Review of scientific articles, review of a specifica theme, meeting with radiologists, oncologists and radiotherapists).
  • Daily surgical activities started after the daily clinical meetings: fellows participate as assistant of all kinds of neurosurgical procedures.
  • Everyday from 4:00pm: ICU and Wards Round-Visits with INC staff.
  • Tuesday and Thrusdays evenings 6:00pm to 7:30pm: scientific meeting (neuroanatomy and neurological diseases).
  • Participation of scientific meetings at the Institute (monthly  or 2).
  • At the end of the fellowship training, presentation of a Review of a specific theme for the staff. These reviews will be submited for publication in a neurosurgical journal.
